Imagine if your child couldn’t dress himself on his own, couldn’t eat or use a toilet on her own. Imagine if you had to do every little practical thing, multiple times per day, in order to ensure your child’s survival. Every day is a challenge, and everyday challenges never stop. I know firsthand that parents raising children with disabilities or “special needs” face a reality that is difficult to comprehend. I am a single mom of two high-intensity special needs children, who require assistance even for the most basic of needs. My girls are 13 and 14 years old, but still require complete assistance to do just about anything. I am not only concerned with their needs now, but I have to think about the rest of their lives, especially when I am gone.
For parents like me, the mental and emotional energy it takes just to survive is almost inexplicable. Living day to day with children who require so much around-the-clock assistance takes its toll on the mind, body, soul, and spirit. Out of my pain, Heartstrings was born. I am passionate about helping parents who give of themselves every day, by providing them support and enriching experiences that will replenish their well-being. It is a dream of mine to offer a rare moment of relaxation for these incredible parents. I am committed to make this dream a reality. It’s what drives me to assist as many families as I can facing similar situations. With your help, we can do it together.
Individuals will be vetted by Tri-Counties Regional Center or the Board of Directors at Heartstrings Foundation. I am very familiar with the struggles of those in the special needs world and am knowledgeable of a wide spectrum of issues these families face. With my knowledge and the database of these organizations, I will be sure to only assist those in need. Once a recipient has been vetted and, they will qualify for assistance in any of the following areas:
Our ultimate mission is to build a state-of-the-art assisted living facility for individuals with disabilities, who can live out the remainder of their lives having fun and being well taken care of.
Your support and contributions will enable us to help families affected by disabilities. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
I have lived this life for 14 years. It’s definitely not what I would have chosen, but nonetheless, here I am. The pain is overwhelming and the future at times can seem grim. The only thing that gives me hope and some sense of joy, is to think that I could help others in my situation. Spending my time and energy, raising money to help these families, is the only thing that helps.
